INSPIRATION

From the 2021 Fall Series inspired by blue and turquoise hues and various watery landscapes from the beach to the lake.

This set of five mini panoramics was the first time I had tried combining a glazed abstract with my faux encaustic process combined with a spray alcohol/watercolor effect. I had almost messed them up when I saw the crazing effect which turned into delightful "ravines" of froth and foam.

The results were gorgeous and they couldn't have lived up to their name any better, because man it honest to goodness looks like the waves crashing on the shore line. And the touches of gold made those subtle turquoise, greens and blues just pop.

WHAT IS FAUX ENCAUSTIC?

I use acrylics, acrylic mediums, and drawing media to create a texture that I call "faux encaustic," that closely replicates the look and feel of pigmented beeswax. It is created on cradled wood panel to further give the illusion of being encaustic art. Acrylics dry permanent and waterproof so these pieces are not sensitive to heat or sunlight like encaustic art.

Images are not blurred…it’s the appearance of thick application of matte materials to achieve a soft and subtle effect that allows the viewer to see through the layers. I often say these faux encaustics are better viewed in-person because they offer a "tactile experience."
