WHAT IS FAUX ENCAUSTIC?
I use acrylics, acrylic mediums, and drawing media to create a texture that I call "faux encaustic," that closely replicates the look and feel of pigmented beeswax. It is created on cradled wood panel to further give the illusion of being encaustic art. Acrylics dry permanent and waterproof so these pieces are not sensitive to heat or sunlight like encaustic art.
Images are not blurred…it’s the appearance of thick application of matte materials to achieve a soft and subtle effect that allows the viewer to see through the layers. I often say these faux encaustics are better viewed in-person because they offer a "tactile experience."
